“Learn about a disability”
Surveys reveal that the society is often led by prejudices and stereotypes about the disabled.
The project “Learn about a disability” educates the society, especially the youth about a disability. It aims to introduce school age children and the youth to problems and needs of the disabled, to form a positive attitude of pupils and students towards the disabled and to perform prevention of injuries and accidents.
The Lithuanian Association of People with Disabilities and its associated members have been organising lectures – meetings in education institutions within the framework of the project “Learn about a disability” since 2003. The project is performed in general education schools of towns and districts of Lithuania (Elektrėnai, Kaunas, Kupiškis, Molėtai, Panevėžys, Radviliškis, Raseiniai, Šakiai, Šilalė, Ukmergė, Utena, Vilnius and Zarasai).
In cooperation with the initiative group of young people in Vilnius, an educational DVD film “Learn about a disability” was created. It is planned to distribute it in Lithuanian schools.
An advertising campaign is organised using outdoor advertising networks, leaflets are distributed, and announcements in the press and on TV are published.
